Technology giant Apple Inc. has recently introduced its latest desktop computer accessory called Magic Trackpad ($69) that features Bluetooth Technology for wireless connectivity and touch-sensitive panel. According to the company, the accessory will only be compatible with Mac computers and did not say if it has plans to make this PC-friendly in the near future.
The Magic Trackpad is particularly designed to work with Mac Pro and iMac computers.
However, some people may find this accessory obsolete, particularly those who prefer using mouse or trackball over touchpad which is commonly used by laptop owners. (Meanwhile, even some laptop owners would bring along a mouse because they find that this is more comfortable to use than the touchpad.)
According to Apple, the accessory can work up to 33 feet away from the computer and has been equipped with an energy-efficient technology that automatically turns off the device after being inactive for a certain period of time.
And because the touchpad is wireless, consumers should expect that the device would need two AA battery to power it. Fortunately, Apple is kind enough to introduce a $29 AA rechargeable battery, which may be another way for the company to persuade consumers to buy more of its products.
Meanwhile, these are the finger gestures the trackpad can detect:
- Scroll – using two fingers, scroll the surface in any directions such as vertically, diagonally, and horizontally.
- Click – this can be done by a simple tap or a double tap in the surface.
- Swipe – to move the arrow forward and back, use the three fingers and brush these from left to right or vice versa.
- Rotate – using the thumb and the index finger, users can rotate an image clockwise or counterclockwise.
Meanwhile, users can remove some “gestures” they find unnecessary by going to the System Preference to disable these features.
