The new LG-SH240 made by LG can go either of two ways, one way will be an innovative and comfortable addition in ergonomic technology design, or the second way which is the way I’m inclined to go, is that it will creep you out. The mobile phone which is a slidy phone is designed specifically to feel like human skin, don’t worry it’s currently only available in Korea, so were safe…..for a little while anyway.
Don’t worry too much, it’s not real skin of course, I’m pretty sure they couldn’t get away with that anyway, and it’s not the whole of the phone, the keypad is crafted from silicone to make it feel exactly like your touching someone’s skin whilst using your mobile phone. It’s actually not a bad looking phone as you can see in the picture, around average size and average features to be honest in today’s market. It has a respectable but not ground breaking 2 mega pixel camera, Bluetooth and 3G connectivity; it also has some external memory. You can pick one up in Korea for around $400 / £200.
Although it’s a nice looking phone and a nice idea, after all, skin or silicone isn’t the most awkward texture, it’s rather nice, but I can just see so many people like me being freaked out by the idea without even giving it a shot. I will certainly give it a try if it ever does come over from Korea, after all who wouldn’t want to be typing out a text message on someone’s skin? Strange question I know but you can see where LG were coming from when planning and manufacturing started for this strange idea. It is a change from the norm which is now dominated by hard modern textures on mobile phones and keypads. Hats off to LG I say for being different, I really would like to see this phone in our market just to see what people would make of it, although the longevity and durability of the silicone keypad will come into question in the long run.
