Honda, one of the world’s leading car manufacturers, has recently announced its newest “green” automobile accessory called Ecological Drive Assist System (EDAS) which is a device for assessing the car’s eco-performance.
This device has been designed to provide feedback which can help drivers’ assess if the car’s engine is working efficiently in a way that it releases as less pollution as possible and consume the least amount of fuel.
EDAS will provide three feedbacks including ECON Mode for assessing control driving conditions, allowing the device to automatically monitor and adjust the brake and air conditioning system; guidance function with a color-coded dashboard display which alerts the people if their driving mode is not fuel-efficient; and scoring function which is also a dashboard display which provides feedbacks including the total miles traveled and the fuel-efficiency of the latest travel.
Meanwhile, the two dashboard displays has been designed with easy-to-read statistics and feedbacks. For example, the guidance function will provide green color display which means that the person is driving in a fuel-efficient way, but when the screen shows blue, it means that the driver is performing in a way which is not eco-friendly or consuming unnecessary gas.
Another impressive feature of the “green” device is the HDD InterNaviSystem which provides cumulative feedback based on the overall performance of the car. By simply sending the collected data to the Internet data storage site, people can have the result of their overall eco-performance.
In this site, people can also get personalized advice which can further improve their driving performance.
American Honda Motor Co spokesman Dan Bonawitz said that the principle behind EDAS is to provide drivers with feedbacks which can help them improve their driving skills and performance and make their car driving mode more environment friendly and fuel-efficient, allowing them to save money by consuming a minimum amount of gas.
This “green” device will be part of the company’s 2009 spring hybrid series and with the popularity of environment friendly cars, the automobile manufacturer is expecting that the car accessory will be widely accepted by the market.
