Computer giant AOpen Inc. previously released MiniPC Duo MP945-V with features almost identical with Mac Mini (also known as white box) of Apple, prompting some critics to call this desktop as Mac Mini clones.
Just like all Mobile on Desktop (MoDT) design, the MiniPC Duo MP945-V comes in extremely compact feature, measuring only 2.3-inch tall and 6.5-inch wide. In terms of case design, it comes in a glossy silver-and-blue color which makes it aesthetically appealing.
Its top part curved slightly, with power key, light indicator, and eject key located in the front panel for DVD burner.
This MoDT device features Intel Core Duo Processor and provides capabilities and applications almost the same as those found in standard notebooks in the market today, but only in desktop platform.
The computer has been designed with multiple video output selections including Multi-TV output and three audio jacks mic-in and line-in/out connections. Meanwhile, one jack can support S/PDIF which is a standard format use for transferring files from one device to another via an optical fiber or standard RCA cable.
One major downside of MiniPC Duo MP945-V is its relatively expensive price (steeper than Apple Mini White Box. Meanwhile, some users also suggest that the two USB ports are not enough to support other storage devices and accessories. As users will put a keyboard and mouse, there will be no other peripherals to support other accessories.
This mobile desktop also lacks in hard drive systems and floppy drive system.
This miniature PC does not include a monitor, mouse, keyboards, speakers, media center remote, and other accessories which means that consumers should prepare for some additional costs. Nevertheless, it provides an impressive technology which can power two monitors simultaneously.
Other features are RAM which can be upgraded to a maximum of 1GB; Intel GM Graphic Processor; and 5.1 audio channel surround.
The MiniPC Duo MP945-V comes at a higher price of $899, nearly $100 more expensive than Apple Mac Mini.
