Samsung HZ35W is a point-and-shoot camera that features 12-megapixel resolution, 24 mm wide angle lens, extended telephoto capability of 15 x optical zoom, and 3-inch screen display, making this more powerful than its predecessors from the HZ Series.
One of the most notable features of this camera is the built-in GPS that allows users to geo-tag their photos—a capability which is becoming the standard in new compact digital cameras.
This is how the geo-tagging capability works: after a user has taken a shot, the camera will automatically store its exact location, even displaying the name of the city and country on the screen. Further complementing this feature is the visual map-view technology which allows the users to check the location of an image on a map without having to upload this online.
Because the device uses AMOLED screen technology, it has the ability to display sharper and more vivid images even in direct sunlight. In addition, this technology supports higher contrast ratio, improved viewing angle, and sharper color.
To compensate camera shake, the digital camera features a technology called Dual Image Stabilization which can shift the lens in the opposite direction after detecting even a slight hand movement.
Just like most compact cameras today, HZ35W has been designed to capture high-definition videos with a resolution of 720p / 30 frame per second. To complement this feature, the camera has H.264 compression which allows users to store more video recording, and HDMI connectivity for a direct connection with HD televisions.
The video recording also boasts scene recognition technology (which is previously used only in still images) which can automatically select the best scene modes, thus allowing users to come up with the best recording. In addition with this capability, there are several pre-programmed settings to achieve the best color balance and exposure.
Despite some impressive features, there are some deal breakers present in this camera such as: quite disappointing audio; confusing menu system; and bulky chassis.
