In an effort to compete with Amazon Kindle, Sony has introduced its own several versions of e-book readers including the Reader Pocket Edition that features ultra-portability specially designed for mobile users and intuitive technologies that will maximize the reading experience of people.
One of the most impressive features of this e-book reader is the E Ink Vizplex which is a new screen technology that projects images as if a person is reading from a real paper even under direct sunlight. In addition, this technology supports different formats including PDR and ePub, thus allowing users to access more books from free Internet sources or directly from Sony’s Reader Store that provides more than a million free digital copies from Google Books.
To download digital books, users have to connect a USB cable (this is provided upon purchase) from their computers to their e-book readers.
Meanwhile, this 5-inch e-book reader has been designed to support multiple text formats including Microsoft Word, BBeB Book, and Adobe PDF5. The device is also compatible with CP and Mac OS.
In terms of intuitive interface, this Sony e-book model has three adjustable font sizes for different reading preferences. To further enhance the reading experience of users, this device supports 800 x 600 resolution for a clearer text display.
Because this mobile gadget has been specifically designed for travellers, this can support up to 350 digital books, thus allowing them to have an option on what topics to read. In addition, this e-book reader has a powerful battery system which can last up to two weeks when fully charged (7,500 continuous page turns).
For a more convenient reading (especially those who prefer reading in bed), Reader Pocket Edition has buttons that allow users to turn pages in right and left. (Unlike when reading a traditional book in which users have to hold this using both their hands.)
According to Sony’s main website, this e-book reader comes at a retail price of $199 and is available in three colors including rose, navy blue, and silver.
